Once you become comfortable with the technical aspects of flash, creating effective lighting is a question of knowledge and technique. In this session we begin to explore some important lighting concepts that are fundamental to a variety of lighting techniques.
This is the third in my series of sessions covering flash lighting topics. The topics covered in the previous sessions (Intro to Flash, Intro to Off-Camera Flash) are built upon in this session. Please note that if you are not comfortable with the concepts that are covered in those sessions, you are likely to find certain aspects of this session utterly confusing, nonsensical and bewildering.
You will need to bring a camera with a general purpose zoom lens that can reach 70-80mm (eg. 24-70mm, 24-105mm, 70-200mm). You should ensure your camera battery is fully charged and you have a memory card with free capacity for approximately 100 photos.
I will provide basic speedlight flash equipment if you do not own any. However, if you already have a speedlight flash you are welcome to bring it along so that you can get some first hand experience using it. Don't forget to bring charged batteries for your flash.
You will not need tripods, lighting stands, flash triggers, umbrellas or any other equipment.
There is no model provided for this session.
As the session is mostly conducted in a quiet undercover space, the session will go ahead in the rain but please bring appropriate clothes for the forecast weather.
We meet mid-afternoon outside The Age building (near Southern Cross station) and return to finish at the same location 2 hours later. Each workshop is limited to 3 photographers. The fee for each participant is $55.
